June is World Ocean Month! Throughout the month, we’re celebrating 50 years of progress in ocean and coastal conservation achieved since the passage of banner legislation including the Coastal Zone Management Act, the National Marine Sanctuaries Act, the Marine Mammal Protection Act, and the Clean Water Act. As extreme natural events from hurricanes to coastal storms, warming oceans and rising sea levels threaten marine ecosystems and wreak havoc on livelihoods and communities, we must also set a course for new policies and actions necessary to sustain our ocean, coasts, and Great Lakes and transform our future.
